Tabletop Day and Free Comics!

In just a few short weeks, we will once again celebrate two of geekdom’s high holy days, International Tabeltop Day and Free Comic Book Day. Each event serves to celebrate all the ways these pursuits have enriched our lives.

Tabletop games bring people together, literally, in ways that few activities can rival. They challenge our mind, heart and spirit (and sometimes even our friendships -I’m looking at you, Diplomacy 😉 ).  Join us on Saturday, April 29 for a can’t-miss day of demos and organized play. Whether you’re an experienced gamer or just discovering all the joy this hobby can bring, we will have something for you. Keep an eye out here and on our Facebook page as we announce more details in the next few days.

Free Comic Book Day follows close on the heels of ITTD. Exactly as the name implies, this is your chance to get some really great comics for absolutely free. Join us on Saturday, May 6 and let us introduce you to comics OR to your new favorite. We’ll have great new comics for all ages and interests, plus fun activities, specials and giveaways. Comics are a fantastic way to inspire young readers not just to read but to WANT to read. Rooted in the dawn of mass printing, comics have long been a stalwart of American storytelling and at GeekLife, we take great pride in curating a widely diverse selection of these voices.

We can’t wait to see you at these exciting events!

We were brought to the attention of an online discussion about “the best places in the city for a woman to geek out and feel safe? Anything from placed with pretty cool trivia nights, comic shops, bars with a geek-centric interests, conventions with good policies, etc.”

Here is the full response.

As the owner of GeekLife in The Heights, I’m obviously biased. But our priorities are to make everyone feel welcome.

We have regular events for Space City Lady Planeswalkers, a Magic: The Gathering group, and we’re also listed on Planeswalkers for Diversity.

Houston LGBT Game Night have held meet ups at the store as well.

Our Wednesday D&D nights are the most diverse by all measures that I’ve ever seen and our other RPG events are equally well attended by a good mix of people.

I’ve also had many compliments on the diversity of our comic offerings.

I’ve only been a vendor at Comicpalooza, but I agree they are a great convention. They added a mom’s/nursing area without fuss two years ago at my request. It’s since evolved into a better, more formal area.”

Side note, We’re also listed on HaterFreeWednesdays.

Shout out to our entire community for being so awesome!

2 Headed Giant is fun for new and experienced players alike. It’s a great introduction to the fun of a Prerelease as well as a challenging format for experienced players. We’ll have a 2HG event at 2pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

If the midnight event doesn’t fit your busy schedule, and you’re interested in standard sealed, join us Saturday at 7pm. All the fun minus the late night.

All Prerelease events feature 2 packs entered into the prize pool per person, plus more prize support to be added as well as door prizes and more!
